Electrical Engineer (UCI EV Team)

Electrical Engineer (UCI EV Team)

(Nov. 2022 – Aug. 2023)

Introduction

The Anteater Electric Racing team at UCI provides engineering students with hands-on experience in automotive development, specifically aiming to build a vehicle capable of competing in the Formula SAE competition. As a member of the electronics team, I was responsible for developing the indicator system for the safety system, which included both low and high voltage warning indicators.

In this section, I will showcase my circuit design work and highlight our race car's features.

EV Low Voltage/High Voltage Indicator

Indicator Circuit's Schematic and Prototype
  • The system operates with two inputs: 50V and 12V. A 12V high-voltage relay is used to connect both circuits.
  • A 555 timer chip generates a square wave output in astable mode, ensuring consistent operation.
  • Five resistors are utilized to dissipate the high power generated by the 50V battery.

During my time with the Anteater Electric Racing team, I actively participated in the EV wiring process alongside my team. I was instrumental in designing and constructing the circuit box that housed the vehicle's indicator system, ensuring the integration of both low and high voltage circuits. Additionally, I contributed to prototyping various systems, including a dual-alert indicator system, which featured a steady green light for low voltage and a flashing red light for high voltage detection.
